“Tell the story, purely and simply”
DTP has become the brand leader for North of England touring theatre, indoors and out, rain or shine. Credits include over 10 years and 500 performances of Shakespearean comedy, (including ‘Twelfth Night’, ‘The Taming of the Shrew’, ‘The Merchant of Venice’, ‘The Tempest’), around some of the most exclusive environs in the North. It has presented revues such as ‘Shakespeare with Punch’ and ‘Dinner with Dickens and Shakespeare’ and in 2012 a classic comedy ensemble season combining Shakespeare’s ‘The Merry Wives of Windsor’ and ‘The Rivals’ by Richard Sheridan.
In 2011 DTP was proud in helping to introduce to the general public a long overlooked and priceless copy of Shakespeare’s First Folio now on exhibition at Skipton Museum.
Now DTP is busier than ever. A summer of ‘Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell’, outdoors and in, by Keith Waterhouse and in association with Samuel French Limited is to be followed in October by Harold Harwood’s comedy masterpiece ‘The Dresser.’ In addition, the new solo tragi-comedy ‘The Actor’s Apology’ by John Cargyll Thompson and premiered to much acclaim this April at Colne Little Theatre is touring throughout the year.
The evergreen ‘The Short and the Long of It’ revue will continue in 2014 to celebrate and commemorate the anniversary of the outbreak of ‘The Great War’. Whirligig is the newly designed Theatre in Education arm of DTP offering an innovative, exciting complement to the standard practices of school and college workshops. (See under Education.)
